Requirements to Get a Motorcycle Only License in Florida
To get a Motorcycle Only license, the process is a bit different, but it helps accommodate minors who wish to drive motorcycles as well. Let’s check out the requirements.
- Be at least 16 years old with a year of driving experience with zero traffic convictions
- Pass the same written road knowledge test needed to get a Class E driver’s license
- Pass the Basic RiderCourse (BRC) or Basic RiderCourse updated (BRCu) with a qualified sponsor
- $48 fee to receive your license
After you’ve satisfied those requirements, you can get a Motorcycle Only license, which allows you to only drive motorcycles. To drive cars, you’ll have to get a standard Class E driver’s license.
Do I Need Motorcycle Insurance to Get a Florida Motorcycle License?
No, you don’t have to provide proof of insurance for your motorcycle when obtaining a motorcycle endorsement or Motorcycle Only license. You will, however, have to pay a $10 registration fee when you apply for your endorsement/license.
To actually drive your motorcycle in Florida, you will need to obtain motorcyclist coverage. Without it, you risk both yourself and your motorcycle, as well as everyone else driving on the roadway with you.
If you try to drive without proper coverage, your license can be suspended or revoked along with your motorcycle’s license plate. Be sure to obtain proper coverage before you hit the pavement.
