10 Best Torx Sets 2023 – Top Picks & Reviews
- Pete Ortiz
- Last updated:
Torx bits are superior to standard Phillips and flathead bits. They’re less likely to strip because of their star pattern. They get a firm grasp on the screw head and offer a better transfer of torque. Unfortunately, they’re missing from many people’s bit kits. While you can sometimes fudge it if you need a Phillips but only have a flathead, you’re not going to make anything else work in place of a Torx bit.
From socket bits to 0.25-inch hex bits for impact drivers all the way to screwdrivers with Torx heads, Torx sets come in a variety of forms. We wanted to make sure that you’re as informed as possible, so we tried all of them and put them to the test.
After all was said and done, we wrote reviews comparing 10 of the best Torx sets on the market. Hopefully, this will save you the trouble of having to test them yourself.

The 10 Best Torx Sets
1. Neiko 10071A Torx Bit Socket Set – Best Overall
The Neiko 10071A Torx Bit Socket Set was our favorite overall, thanks to its blend of high-quality bits and great value. There are 13 total bits included in this set, spanning a range of sizes from T8-T60. Whatever your needs, there’s a bit in this set that should fit.
These bits are crafted from premium S2 alloy steel with sockets made from chrome vanadium steel for superior strength. They will fit on standard socket wrenches so you can get plenty of leverage behind the bit and break loose even the most stubborn bolts and screws. This is great, but you’re going to need three different socket wrench sizes to make use of the whole kit.
To keep things organized and help you avoid losing bits, this set comes in a hard-plastic case that holds the sockets snugly. They’re unlikely to corrode thanks to the chrome finish, and we found that they held up to whatever abuse we threw at them.
- Bits are made from premium S2 alloy steel
- Sockets are crafted from chrome vanadium steel
- Bits are set in a sturdy plastic case for organization
- Includes a wide range of sizes
- Requires three different sized socket wrenches
2. Amartisan T40 Torx Bit Set – Best Value
You never know what kind of screws you might come across, which is why the Amartisan T40 Torx Bit Set includes both short and long bits, ensuring you’re prepared for anything. The short bits are one inch long and have the center drilled out, so they’ll work with security screws. When you need extra reach, the longer bits are 2.3 inches long in the same Torx sizes from T5-T40. The long bits don’t have the center drilled.
In total, this set includes 24 pieces. You get two plastic bit holders as well; one for the long bits and one for the short bits. But the cases are thin, flimsy, and cheap, with no way to organize the bits inside.
To make sure that these bits work for a variety of applications, they’re a standard 0.25-inch hex size that will fit in any impact driver, adjustable screwdriver, drill, or other tools with a 0.25-inch chuck. In all, this set offers a lot for an affordable price, which is why we think it’s one of the best Torx sets for the money.
- Includes short and long bits
- Standard 0.25-inch size works with many tools
- Comes with a lot of bits for the price
- Short bits have drilled centers for security screws
- Included storage cases are cheap and flimsy
3. Wiha 36291 Screwdriver Torx Set – Premium Choice
Many of the Torx sets on this list are bits or sockets, meaning they require additional tools to work. But the Wiha 36291 Screwdriver Torx Set is a set of screwdrivers with Torx heads that’s ready to use as is. There’s only six in the set, ranging from T6 to T15, and they’re more expensive than most of the sets we tested unless you factor in the cost of additional tools to make use of the other bits, which you don’t need with this set.
These screwdrivers feature Softfinish handles with cushioned grips that are comfortable to hold. The shafts and tips are made of hardened, high alloy chrome vanadium molybdenum steel that’s less brittle than standard chrome vanadium steel, so it will hold up through years of abuse. All of the tips are precision-machined, guaranteeing a secure fit between the bit and faster. This results in fewer stripped bits, helping them to last longer.
These screwdrivers are well-balanced and feel good in the hand. They’re also clearly labeled on the butt of each screwdriver so you can always quickly find the tool you’re looking for. We wish they spanned a wider range of sizes, but you can’t have everything.
- Full screwdrivers are ready to use
- No need for a drill or other tools
- Comfortable cushion grip
- Precision-machined tips made from quality tool steel
- Each screwdriver is clearly labeled
- More expensive than other sets
- Only six sizes
4. TEKTON 25291 Star Key Wrench Set
With nine pieces housed in a convenient plastic housing with all the sizes clearly labeled, the TEKTON 25291 Star Key Wrench Set just missed our top three. If it included more than just nine wrenches, it might have climbed a bit higher. This set opts for Allen-wrench-style Torx drivers with a head on each side, which gives you extra reach when on one side when you need it, and more leverage if you turn it the other way to use the long side as a handle.
These wrenches are coated in a black oxide finish to prevent rust, corrosion, and chipping. The heads are precisely sized, but they’re not quite as strong as some of our favorites, resulting in heads that strip too easily if they’re not exactly straight in the screw head. Still, for the low cost of these wrenches, they offer an effective way to remove or install Torx screws, they just aren’t impressive enough to crack our top three.
- Affordably priced
- Convenient housing keeps your wrenches organized
- Each wrench has a long and short reach
- Black oxide finish prevents corrosion and won’t chip
- Nine pieces—fewer than other sets
- The heads are easy to strip
5. WORKPRO T8-T60 Torx Bit Socket Set
This set of Torx bit sockets from WORKPRO looks pretty similar to the Neiko set that tops our list, but these ones fall short in a few key areas. They’re still made of ultra-strong S2 steel that’s drop-forged and heat-treated with a convenient case to keep them all organized. Also similar to the Neiko kit, you’ll get 13 bits spanning from a T8 to a T60.
But these sockets are more expensive than the Neiko sockets, despite being of apparently lower quality. The sizes are extremely difficult to read on these sockets; you may need a magnifying glass if you have less than perfect vision.
It’s the quality of the bits that really holds this set back though. The smaller sizes were prone to twisting, and we had several of them bend out of shape by the time the kit had made it through a few easy projects. We’d rather save some money and get a higher quality set with the Neiko set in the top position of this list.
- Ultra-strong S2 steel is drop-forged and heat-treated
- Convenient case for organized storage
- 13 different bit sizes
- You’ll need three different socket wrenches to use the whole set
- They’re more expensive than similar sets we tested
- The smaller bits were prone to twisting
- Sizes are difficult to make out
6. Titan 12710 Tamper Proof Star Key Set
If you need to remove tamper-resistant security screws, a standard set of Torx bits just won’t cut it. That’s why the Titan 12710 Tamper Proof Star Key Set features bits with drilled tips. These bits will fit precisely on tamper-resistant screws to allow you to remove or install them with ease.
In this set, you’ll get 10 bits of different sizes, ranging from T6 to T30. If you need something bigger than T30, you’ll have to look somewhere else. The whole set is contained within a folding handle like a set of Allen wrenches. Unfortunately, it’s not well made, so several of the wrenches were stuck and didn’t want to open.
The biggest problem we encountered with this Torx set is that it’s not very strong. If you apply too much force to the thinner wrenches, they’ll twist. Once that happens, they’re no longer much use, and they won’t even fold into the handle properly anymore. We prefer the sets that offer a bit more durability, especially when they’re at the higher end of the price range.
- Folds compact for easy storage or carrying
- Tips are drilled for use with security screws
- No bits larger than T-30
- Several wrenches are stuck and hard to open
- The thinner wrenches will twist without much force
7. Bosch 8Piece Impact Tough Torx
These Impact Tough Torx Power Bits from Bosch are built to withstand the forces of an impact driver. They’re two inches long so you get an extended reach and because of impact tough design, they’re supposed to offer up to 10 times the lifespan of standard bits.
While they definitely hold up to use in an impact driver, we certainly didn’t see any sign of such an impressive lifespan as the advertising led us to believe. In all honesty, they don’t seem to last much longer than any regular 0.25-inch bits we’ve used.
In this kit, you’ll get eight bits that cover a very short range of sizes from T15 to T40. But eight bits only equates to five sizes because there are multiples in this kit. You’ll get three copies of the T25 and 2 copies of the T20 bits, which sacrifices the versatility of this kit. If they really survived 10 times longer than regular bits, would you need three of the same size?
- Built to withstand the forces of an impact driver
- Offers up to 10 times the lifespan of standard bits
- Only eight bits included
- The lifespan isn’t as impressive as the marketing
- There are only five bit sizes in this set
8. LEXIVON LX-143 Torx Bit Socket Set
With 13 Torx bits stored in a plastic case, the LEXIVON LX-143 Torx Bit Socket Set could have been one of our favorites. It had several stand-out features like the polished and chrome plating that offers excellent corrosion resistance or the limited lifetime warranty that the set is backed by. But even though these are excellent features, it wasn’t enough to make up for this kit’s shortcomings.
First, the case is awful. It looks great, but it doesn’t actually hold the bits. They just kind of lay in their spaces. If you accidentally knock it over while the case is open, your sockets are going everywhere.
If you want to use all 13 sockets, you’re going to need three different socket wrenches. If you don’t have all the sizes already, that’s going to make this a pretty hefty investment. But all that would be acceptable if the sockets were great. Too bad one of them twisted the very first time we used it! These bits aren’t cheap, and at this price, that level of quality is unacceptable for us.
- Backed by a limited lifetime warranty
- Polished and chrome plated for corrosion resistance
- The case doesn’t hold the bits in place
- Need three different socket wrenches to use the whole set
- Bit twisted the first time we used it
9. Craftsman Evolv Torx Bit Socket Set
This Craftsman set comes with just seven different Torx sockets. It includes sizes from T15 to T50, which means you’re getting none of the smaller sized Torx bits in this kit. They are covered by Craftsman’s lifetime guarantee, but that doesn’t warrant the high price tag, which is more expensive than most of the other kits we’ve tested, even though they contained more bits! You don’t even get a case with this set.
One good thing about the Craftsman set is that all seven bits use the same 0.375-inch drive ratchet. But that’s not enough to make up for the other drawbacks we’ve mentioned, which is why this set ranks so low on our list.
- All the bits use the same size ratchet
- Covered by Craftsman’s lifetime guarantee
- More expensive than other Torx sets
- No case included
- There are only seven bits in a set
10. GEARWRENCH 80588 Torx Bit Socket Set
We like the extra-long bits in this GEARWRENCH set that provide six inches of reach. Granted, that much bit can definitely get in the way at times, but there are times when it’s crucial. But that doesn’t mean that these bits are worth several times what other bits cost; though that’s how they’re priced.
At first, we were happy to see that these bits are covered by a limited lifetime warranty. Until that is, we discovered that the warranty doesn’t cover wear and tear. Guess it really is limited. That came into play pretty quickly too, since we managed to snap one of the heads the first time we used the set. This would be disappointing with any bits, but even more so with such an expensive set.
- Extra-long bits provide six inches of reach
- Several times the cost of other Torx sets
- The warranty doesn’t cover wear and tear
- We managed to snap a head on the first use
Buyer’s Guide – How to Choose the Best Torx Set
As you can tell, there are many types of Torx bits available to suit projects of every type. So, how do you choose which set is right for you? If you’re still unsure, then the next step to take is to read this short buyer’s guide that’s going to help you figure out which type of Torx bit set will fit best for your needs.
Different Types of Torx Bit Sets
When it comes to Torx bits, you have quite a few options to choose from. Some of these require other tools to be truly useful while others are ready to use on their own. There are sets designed for portability and sets that are intended for applying lots of torque to stubborn bolts and screws. Let’s take a closer look at each type of Torx bit set so you can more easily decide between them.
Socket Sets
These Torx drivers will attach to standard socket wrenches, allowing you to get maximum torque for the most stubborn of fasteners. These are particularly great when you’re working on cars or other large machinery. You can even attach an extension to get extra reach when you need it. But because it’s a socket, it’s pretty wide, so it might not fit into tight areas.
If you don’t already have socket wrenches, then a socket set of Torx bits is going to become a pretty hefty investment. Many of these sets require you to have all three main sizes of socket wrench to utilize the whole kit, which can get pretty pricey if you’re buying them all together at once.
- Socket wrenches provide plenty of torque
- Can add extensions for extra reach
- Requires you to have socket wrenches
- May need multiple socket wrench sizes
- Might not fit into tight areas
Drill and Driver Bit Sets
The Torx bits that are meant for drivers are 0.25-inch hex-shaped bits that will fit into any standard 0.25-inch chuck, like the ones you’ll find on most impact drivers today. You’ll find the same size bit holder on other tools though, like electric screwdrivers, handheld screwdrivers with changeable tips, and more, making these pretty versatile. Still, you must have some other type of tool to make use of one of these bits.
Since these bits fit into power tools, they can get a lot of jobs done much faster than other types of Torx bits. For instance, consider deck screws, which often have Torx heads. Using a set of Torx bits meant for an impact driver will help you get those decking boards installed in near-record time. But the same job performed with a set of Torx bits in an Allen key format would be an agonizing process.
- Fits into standard 0.25-inch chucks
- Works with a variety of tools
- Can multiply your productivity
- Must have another tool to use these bits
Screwdriver Torx Sets
If you don’t already have a set of socket wrenches or an impact driver in your tool collection, then a set of screwdrivers with Torx heads might be the best way to go. This option requires nothing else to work. You don’t need any drills or wrenches, just grab the screwdriver and work.
Screwdrivers are long and thin, providing excellent reach in a thin tool that will fit into any tight space. Unlike Torx bits in an Allen key set, a screwdriver is comfortable to hold and provides decent leverage and reach at the same time. The only real downside to this type of Torx set is that they tend to be more expensive than other types of Torx sets.
- Doesn’t require any other tools
- Provides great reach in a thin tool that can fit anywhere
- Comfortable to hold
- Gives you good reach and leverage simultaneously
- Tends to be the most expensive option
Allen Wrench Torx Sets
An Allen wrench Torx set is just a set of Allen wrenches with Torx heads. Like standard Allen keys, these come in different varieties. You can get them as a set of individual wrenches or on a foldable set that’s easy to fit in your pocket.
As individual wrenches, you’ll have a long and short end that each has a Torx tip. One way will provide great reach, the other will give you leverage, but you’ll never get them together. Still, these are portable, easy to store, and they’re great for basic uses.
If you get a foldable set, you’ll be able to easily store them anywhere. They’ll even fit in your pocket if you need to bring them along with you. But they don’t have great reach, and the leverage is only so-so since the handle always wants to close while you’re trying to twist them. But this is still one of the best ways to fit a usable set of Torx bits in a small, neat package.
- Doesn’t require other tools to work
- Can store many Torx bits in a compact, neat package
- Provides good reach
- Can’t have good leverage and reach together
Conclusion
You may not run into Torx-head fasteners all the time, but when you do, there’s no substitute for a Torx bit kit. Nothing else can take the place of one of these star-shaped bits. In our reviews, we compared some of the best Torx sets on the market, but we’d like to remind you about our favorites so they’re fresh in your mind.
The Neiko 10071A Torx Bit Socket Set was our favorite of them all. This set includes 13 premium Torx bits spanning a range of sizes from T8-T60 that are made from premium S2 alloy steel with chrome vanadium steel sockets for superior strength. They even come in a hard plastic case to keep them organized.
For the best value, we suggest the Amartisan Tamper Resistant Torx Bit Set. It includes a variety of bits in sizes from T5-T40 in a standard 0.25-inch hex shape that’s compatible with most screwdrivers, impact drivers, and drills. You get short and long bits in this set, and the short bits are even drilled out for security screws.
Finally, the Wiha 36291 Torx Screwdriver Set earned our premium recommendation with their comfortable cushion grips, clearly labeled sizes, and precision-machined tips of hardened steel.
